19th century Southampton, New York, Tramp Art desk decorated with applied reed scrolls and tramp carving. Galleried top with two oval mirrored doors. Doors have wood mechanical locking mechanism, opening to a fitted interior, set on a slant front case. Over five drawers made from cigar boxes and two cabinets flanking knee hole. Several areas made from old shipping containers inscribed ''H. M. Platt, Southampton, L.I.''

The interior cavity and doors are wallpapered in different period wallpapers. There is a simple hidden wood mechanism that opens a secret compartment. The skeleton key still opens the locking lower right door. The oval mirrors are wavy and beautifully set. Bent reeding, carved bobbins, and notched wood provide a decorative theme. Ink stains and blotches add to the patinated interior desk. This is one of those pieces that we wish could talk because stories must abound.

58-1/2''h, 34-3/4''w, 18-3/4'' d (when desk closed) approx 32” (when desk open)

1870s-1890s
